Past Daniel W.E. Warntz - Pastor Daniel Warntz.  was born and raised on a dairy farm outside of Woodward, PA which is in eastern Centre County at the easternmost edge of the Allegheny Synod.  He had a gift for music at an early age as he started piano lessons at the age of 5 and was playing Sunday morning church services by age 16.  By age 17, he was employed as the organist and choir director for a two-point Lutheran parish while attending college full-time.  He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1990 with a B.S. degree in Secondary Education with emphasis on chemistry and Earth/Space sciences.  In 1991, Daniel was hired to be the Director of Music and Worship at St. John Lutheran church in Millheim, PA and served that position for the next 25 years.  His responsibilities were to coordinate all music activities for the church, play the organ for services, direct the adult choir and conduct the hand-bell choir.   Daniel met his future wife, Rebecca, in 1997 and was married in October of that year.  They quit the dairy business in 2006 and he started working at the Agricultural Analytical Soil Laboratory at Penn State doing soil testing and compost testing.  From 1991,  he was active in the Synod’s activities, playing the organ and piano for the Synod’s worship services, serving six years on the Synod Council, served as a voting member to Churchwide Assembly in 2013 and participating as an Authorized Lay Worship Leader throughout the Synod.  In 2014, Dan felt a call to the ministry of Word and Sacrament  and after being entranced by the Allegheny Synod Candidacy Committee, he attended Luther Seminary in Minneapolis, MN.   Dan completed his Internship at Zion Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN, which is near Fargo, ND. Dan graduated from Luther Seminary in August 2018 with high honors in Systematic Theology., When the pastor retired, the church asked if he would stay and be the Interim pastor during the transition period.  Dan accepted and was the Interim pastor until he was called by Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg, WV in May 2019.  In March of 2022, Pastor Dan was called by St. John’s Lutheran Church to be their full-time pastor and was contracted to serve Faith United Evangelical Lutheran in Nescopeck.  They have no children, but one cat who truly channels the personality of a teen-ager.

The History Of St. John's Lutheran

The first records of St. John's Lutheran Church dates from 1792 of baptismal records.  The church originally met in people's homes as the village of Mifflinburg, now named Mifflinville was not laid out until 1794 and the township in 1799.  It is the oldest church in the area and was known on public deeds as the "German Church" since German was the native language used in the services.  The original congregation was a Union church of the Lutherans and German Reformed members.  Each had their own pastors and stayed together as a Union Church until around 1882 when the Lutherans split away and built a new church across the street in its present day location.  The original Union Church was located on the corner where the park is located straight across the street from the present church.  The Reformed congregation closed in 1913 and the building removed up the street to the local feed mill where it stood until the 1960's when it was torn down  . Many renovations have been done to the inside of St. John's over the years, but the original exterior structure remains basically the same from the original 1883 building.
